LAVA is an initiative launched in 2024 by Eva Lavranou and Chaido
Kaproulia, founders of isola studio, with the goal of expanding the
architectural discourse in Greece and fostering deeper connections with the
global community of creatives. As today's political, social, technological, and
environmental challenges become increasingly complex, the need for a radical
rethinking of how we envision and design the built environment has never been
more urgent.
LAVA serves as a platform for innovation, experimentation, and
interdisciplinary collaboration, offering a departure from conventional
architectural practice and office routines. It invites architects, designers,
and thinkers to explore new perspectives and craft alternative realities for
the design discipline. By breaking free from traditional frameworks, LAVA
encourages a fluid exchange of ideas and embraces unconventional approaches to
problem-solving.
Through its research initiatives and diverse programming—including
exhibitions, publications, talks, and performances—LAVA brings together a
vibrant community of architects, designers, artists, and researchers. The
platform is particularly focused on those who are drawn to interventionist
practices, challenging established norms and reimagining the future of design.
Its mission is to disrupt the status quo, foster communication across disciplines,
and generate forward-thinking ideas that can reshape topographies and address
the urgent issues of our time. LAVA’s vision is to cultivate a creative
environment where fresh ideas can flourish and the boundaries of architecture
can be continuously redefined.
